Tempe Community Area

Tempe

Description:

Tempe Neighbors Helping Neighbors (TNHN) is a grassroots, membership-based nonprofit founded in 2009 to enable adults to remain in their homes and communities as they age. By coordinating a network of compassionate neighbors and volunteers, we offer assistance with basic home and yard maintenance, transportation, companionship and more.

Current needs:

Funding to support our growth and operations, HolidayLights Project sponsors and volunteers, weekday volunteer drivers, a portable projector, volunteer schedulers

In collaboration with the Tempe Community Council and the Maricopa Association of Governments, TNHN has evolved into a local Village membership organization, part of a nationwide movement to enable people of all ages to connect and support each other to strengthen their communities and provide the best quality of life. Together, we serve our neighbors who wish to age in place, providing them with the assistance they need to thrive, sustain their independence and self worth and combat loneliness and isolation. Our volunteers provide services such as transportation, friendly visits and phone calls, basic yard cleanup, small home maintenance projects, technology assistance and pet care. We believe every generation should feel valued, connected and cared for.

About Neighbors Helping Neighbors

Tempe Neighbors helping Neighbors (TNHN) started in 2009 as a group of friends that got together every other Saturday to help seniors and those with disabilities with their basic home and yard care.  Last year, after being approached by Tempe Community Council to pilot a program to help older adults to age in place, TNHN expanded their scope to take on other services to help aging and disabled Tempeans remain in their homes with an improved quality of life.  We do this through the generosity of volunteers. “We’re looking for volunteers all the time along with ideas for helping Tempe become even more age-friendly- it’s what we do here in Tempe,” said TNHN Board President, Gary Roberts.
